free WiFi in Paris

Internet access throughout Paris! 260 free WiFi internet access points have been announced in the city of Paris. Located in various parks, town halls, libraries, and museums throughout the city, the free service will be accessible from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily. Available in all 20 arrondissements, the first WiFi points are opening in mid-June 2007 with further points opening in September.

This is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to be connected during your visit to Paris. Beyond the obvious uses (checking and sending email, reading your local paper, and surfing the web), here are two especially useful applications of this technology.

Make international phone calls. Get a Skype account and call home for pennies a minute. If the person you're calling also has Skype, calls are free. You can also get a Skype-In number and receive calls anywhere you have a broadband internet connection.

Upload your pictures and order prints. Your photos of Paris will be waiting in your mailbox when you get home!
